Koh Tang
Best Island for Diving - Koh Tang
Calling all wilderness explorers! Koh Tang is Cambodia’s largest island, and one of the most underrated spots for real adventurers who love exploring the unknown. This island is ninety percent covered by forests, with many areas left unexplored. It is the only island in Cambodia where travellers can go wreck diving. Koh Tang has five coastal beaches; however only about half of them are sandy and suitable for sunbathing, with the rest being covered in rocks. The island's eight popular diving sites offer coral reefs and a wealth of underwater creatures, including fantastically colored nudibranchs, poisonous pufferfish and dazzling stingrays with electric blue spots. Koh Tang is worth a visit, particularly if you love diving. In the waters surrounding the island, you are bound to find previously unexplored or little explored diving spots with a wealth of marine life to admire. Tour groups recommend spending the night, as night diving is the most popular attraction to the island. It is very well-preserved and unmarked by tourists, with only one hostel on the island, so if Koh Tang is on your list, make sure to plan well in advance! Koh Tang was the site of a 1975 clash between US forces and the Khmer Rouge, the last official battle of the Vietnam War. It's now uninhabited save for a small outpost of Cambodian military personnel, resulting in clear coastal waters with excellent visibility and undisturbed marine life, making it and nearby Koh Prins the perfect islands for diving.
